She looks up at me with sun in her hair. He hands me a cup full of sand and tells me its “grape juice”. She snuggles against my shoulder as we read, and intertwines her fingers into mine. He says,”Mama, I’m scared”, just so I give him a hug. She laughs with mouth wide open as I spin her around the living room. He asks me to swing in the swing next to him, just so we can be together. He giggles every time I put lotion on his ribs. She wakes up every morning with messy hair and a smile. He tells me he wants to be “mommy” when he grows up. She tells me that I am her best friend. He rubs my arm as I read him a bed time story. They laugh. They smile. They cry. They love.
These are moments I experience everyday. They may not seem like much, but they are more valuable than anything I posses.
Life is like a precious pearl necklace. It is full of small, seemingly insignificant moments, that when you put them all together, make something beautiful. They make life.
What if life wasn’t about the “big” moments? What if instead it was made up of all the beautiful, seemingly mundane moments we all live, every day? How much more deeply would we breathe? How much harder would we laugh? How much more present would we be?
These moments are my life. It may not be much, but it is my pearl necklace. I choose to wear it proudly.
